We are all evolving, every day and every way. Sometimes it is happening quickly in the form of life changes and milestones, and sometimes it is happening slowly, almost imperceptibly, like the aging of our cells. My question for you is: What will you do differently this year to ensure that you are being authentically yourself?

The most visionary action you can take is being authentically you. Determining what success means to you, rather than deriving your idea of success from others, is an extremely worthwhile endeavor.  As the late poet Mary Oliver asks, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Are you willing to…

…look deep inside yourself to determine what your best life looks like?
…to create a plan to pursue and support that life?

Great vision requires only one thing: A focus inward before you refocus on the horizon.

2019 may have been a year of great change or soul sucking stagnation for you, or anything in between. I’ve been using the tagline “2020: It is not just a year, it is a vision” and for me this could not be truer. Everything is laid out before me, to allow me to be me, in this new decade. I turned 50, finished my Master’s degree in Organizational Communication at the University at Albany after starting it 25 years ago, reorganized in business, served amazing clients, tackled new client categories, wrote programs, created more services offerings, sold and bought properties, moved offices, and even helped my husband’s business for the first time in our 29 years together. All of it pushed me out of my comfort zone and there were definitely shaky moments when I severely lacked clarity, wondering what I should do or could do, definitely times it felt like failure, but today, I am feeling extremely blessed, proud, and excited for the future. Beyond that, the changes opened new doors and opportunities previously unseen. As I said above, we are all evolving, whether we like to or not, and it may very well be confusing or frightening before it is exciting.

What does your 2020 Vision look like? How do you feel and how do you want to feel? What is “next” for you? Recently, I have had quite a few people come to me feeling that there is something they wish to pursue that isn’t quite clear yet; a longing for a new dimension in their career or life. Many people come to me longing for more calm and clarity in life. We live in a complex, fast past world. The fastest growing trend in 2020 may be to slow down! What does that longing look or feel like for you? If you have had setbacks this year, what are they and how are they essential lessons for your most authentic self? There is great wisdom in any failure, regret or discomfort.

It takes courage to have authentic vision for your life, rather than operate on auto pilot seeking direction outside of yourself. I invite you to begin your 2020 Vision this very moment if you haven’t already, with these simple questions: Who are you? and What do you want?
