The holiday season has begun! A joyful holiday is always the goal, however the push for perfection can easily turn holiday joy into stress. Let’s take a look at ways to make your holiday more joyful.

Simplicity – Simplicity is often the exact opposite of what we are trying to accomplish for the holidays. Examine where it is possible to bring simplicity to your shopping, decorating, or holiday hosting. Find the best ways to reduce chaos and complexity. Everything from pre-packaged cookie dough to pre-lit trees and garland offer us the saving of time. Teens love gift cards. Grandma really only wants a hug! Find ways to simplify that work best for you and your family.

Mindfulness – Remember in the midst of all the busyness, the best present is your presence. The holiday is about connecting with loved ones. Being present with them is a gift for them and you. Consider your holiday schedule and create time for visiting and hosting that allows you to be present.

Gratitude – It is when we are truly the busiest during the holiday that we can either be frustrated or grateful. Stop and ask yourself why it is busy. The amount of family we have, the amount of presents to wrap, the amount of food to cook is all a tribute to your great abundance. You can choose to reflect on this busyness with gratitude. There are many feeling the pain of loss or lack during the holidays and perhaps this is a time to reach out to someone who could benefit from your thoughtfulness.

Rest – make sure you aren’t pulling all nighters to get your holiday plans accomplished. Take things one step at a time and make sure you are operating with the proper rest. Exhaustion may not serve you.  If you rest when you need to, tackling that recipe, wrapping, or conversing with your relative is sure to be more enjoyable.

We hope that you have a happy and healthy holiday and blessed new year!
