The law of attraction is a magnetic power in the universe that draws energies of similar quality together. Like attracts like. So we, as energetic beings and part of the physical world, have the power to attract.  Our attention on thoughts, ideas, people, situations and circumstances, causes an attraction, so we want to place this attention on what we want, rather than what we do not want. In order to engage the law of attraction to work for us, we need to be mindful of where our attention is focused. We should use it to our benefit, attracting wonderful opportunities, people and situations into our life. Similar to driving a car, your car will go where your eyes go, so too our lives go where our attention goes.

Have you ever been shocked that the friend who has so many problems keeps getting more and more problems? This is the law of attraction in action. We can engage the law in our favor if we begin to take responsibility for our lives, directing our thoughts and actions toward our desires and leaving behind any sense of victimhood. In his book The Power of Intention, Wayne Dyer says there are no justified resentments. Even when horrible things have happened, you can use life’s experience to pave a way to your own evolution and recognize how challenges served to propel toward the person you are today.

What are you putting out into the world? We are energetic beings giving off a vibrational frequency. What you give out, you get back.  What you give out, you attract. Think about the energy you are emitting  — is it full of love, peace, calm or is it anger, resentment, frustration? The law of attraction works based on interest,  therefore it does not respond to negatives. For instance, “I don’t want to be penniless” is the equivalent of “I want to be penniless.”

Where is your interest?  You have a choice: problems or potential.

Where are you putting your attention?

Is your attention on gratitude, appreciation, desires?

Is your attention on knowing how you want to feel and how you want to live?

…or is your focus on shortcomings, lack, problems, setbacks, tragedies?

What do you want your future to look like? Put that into your thoughts!

To engage the law of attraction:

1) Step 1: Focus on what you desire. This is intention.

2) Step 2: Give your intention, your attention. Pay attention to what you desire and even feel the feelings as you would if you received the life you dream.

Our spiritual and thought leaders have been talking about the law of attraction for centuries, even if they weren’t using the term.

From our spiritual leaders…

“For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he …” The Bible, Proverbs 23:7

“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” –  Gautama Buddha

“Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviors.
Keep your behaviors positive, because your behaviors become your habits.
Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.”
~Gandhi

“Everything is possible for him who believes.” – The Bible, Mark 9:23

“Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need; you may have abundance for every good work.” – The Bible, Second Corinthians 9:8

 From our great thinkers…

“A person is what he or she thinks about all day long.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.”
~ Albert Einstein

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right.”
~ Henry Ford

As we become aware of our thoughts from this perspective of attraction, we may notice that it is difficult to spend a lot of time thinking great things.  Why is this?  Often we think of what we want in the negative, because thinking in the positive, of the best positive outcome, feels too presumptuous or egotistical. It may make us uncomfortable. Perhaps we think we will ‘jinx’ ourselves or even be crushed if we dare to desire something and we do not receive it.  It takes a willingness to be vulnerable to place your thoughts on your truest wishes. It requires we believe it is the path to getting more of what we want and less of what we don’t want. It takes courage to boldly believe and to remain open to the results.

Be courageous! What do you want?

One technique to try if you aren’t sure what you do want, is to write down what you don’t want. It is safe to say that most people are extremely clear on what they do not want. So start there….. what do you NOT want to happen? Write it out in a list. (Taking it out of your head.) Then take each item and turn it into a desire.  Turn the negative statement into a positive quality.

What do you want?

What do you NOT want?

Use these two lists to create a powerful intention to use this week to engage the law of attraction to work to your benefit.

Your egoic mind may fight you on this.  Powerful, positive, intentions sound dangerous to the ego in us. The ego wants to protect us from being vulnerable. It wants us to stay very grounded in the fact that problems in life occur, that we are not to think too big because that is risky and we might get hurt. Our ego is the ‘safety officer’ and we may have to work hard to get around that style of thinking. The neural pathways are deeply ingrained.  The ego’s message is “…be afraid, be offended, be your smallest self, rather than your truest self…” One way around this resistance is to be open to everything and attached to nothing. This means that we can be open to great and wonderful things happening to us but not devastated by what does not come to pass. When we choose to look at life’s challenges as opportunities rather than threats. We can tell our egos to take a back seat for a bit.

Decide today to put out a new and improved vibration created through your powerful thoughts about the life you desire and wish to attract.  Look at life’s challenges, not as opportunities rather than threats. Make a conscious effort to grow through them. Thank God and the universe for your difficulties and know you will grow if you move through them in a positive way.

In recent years, the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes shared the law of attraction with millions of readers. Time and again, people shared stories of how it changed the lives. The comedian and actor Jim Carrey has joined in the effort to promote understanding of this law. In  his own life he chose to become a comedian to “free people from concern” as a result of seeing sadness in his family, determining that you can fail doing what you don’t like so you might as well try what you do like.  He placed into his imagination, his thoughts, his version of success and the rest of is history.  “You are not to be contained, you are the container,” he says in a commencement speech to graduates. Do you dare to put your thoughts on your own greatness?

You have greatness within you and I encourage you to reach for it. This week, create thoughts that draw to you that which you desire. Set a new routine for keeping these thoughts as your primary vibration. Let go of don’ts, can’ts, I nevers….and set your spirit free!

In future weeks, we will continue to learn more about mastering our mind, looking inward, and connecting to our truest selves. You are so worth it! Thank you for investing this time in INNERSPACE.  If you are interesting in joining the INNERSPACE Facebook Group we would be happy to welcome you!
